TL;DR
Cold email gets the attention, but for many B2B teams a phone call is what turns a warm reply into a meeting. Close CRM was built around calling, and its built-in dialers are a common reason outbound teams pick it over HubSpot. Here is the full picture: what each dialer does, what plan you need, how to set up a call queue and where the limits are.
Sourcing note: dialer behaviour and plan gating come from Close's help center, calling page and pricing page, read on 8 October 2026. Several details came from search summaries of help pages rather than the pages themselves and are marked (directional). Plan prices are omitted on purpose because Close's pricing page did not label monthly versus annual figures in our read; see our Close pricing guide.
If you have a few reps working a list of leads, you want the Power Dialer on Growth. If you have a bigger team and a large list where most calls go unanswered, the Predictive Dialer on Scale cuts the dead time by filtering out voicemails and busy signals. Either way, calling works best as one step in a sequence with email and LinkedIn, not a replacement for them. See cold calling vs cold email for when each wins.
| Power Dialer | Predictive Dialer | |
|---|---|---|
| Calls at once | One lead at a time; next call dials when one ends | Several leads at once; connects a rep only on a human answer |
| Plan (pricing page) | Growth and Scale | Scale only |
| Voicemails and busy signals | Reach the rep unless you use a voicemail drop | Filtered out before reaching the rep |
| Solo rep | Works well | Poor fit: needs several reps online (directional) |
| Best for | SDRs working a Smart View list | Teams with many reps on one big list |
The Predictive Dialer adjusts how many calls it places based on the number of available reps, answer and abandonment rates and average conversation length (directional). It skips leads called in the last hour and leads abandoned in the last 72 hours unless you choose "Start from Scratch" (directional). Close also has an AI voice caller, Chloe, which was in beta at the time of the sources we read and limited to US and Canadian numbers (directional). We do not cover it here because its status may have changed.
| Plan | Power Dialer | Predictive Dialer | Voicemail drop | Recording retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | No | No | No | 30 days |
| Essentials | No | No | No | 30 days |
| Growth | Yes | No | Yes | 90 days |
| Scale | Yes | Yes | Yes | Unlimited |
Source: Close's pricing page as read on 8 October 2026. Close also lists a Call Assistant add-on on every plan for transcription and call summaries, priced at $50 a month plus $0.02 per transcribed minute.
Ring time defaults to 32 seconds, long enough to reach voicemail, with a 20-second reduced option. Both apply to the two dialers.
Data quality limit: both dialers call only the primary number of the primary contact and cannot redial the same number or work through several contacts (directional). If your best contact is not marked primary, they never get called. Fix this before you launch a call day. See our CRM data hygiene guide.
Voicemail drop. Close lists one-click pre-recorded voicemail drops on Growth and Scale, configured in the phone and voicemail settings. For a rep making 60 dials in a session, that is the difference between recording the same message 40 times and not.
Recording. Recording is a per-user setting (directional), and the pricing page lists retention of 30 days on Solo and Essentials, 90 days on Growth and unlimited on Scale.
Transcription. The optional Call Assistant transcribes recorded calls and voicemails and writes short per-call summaries in 20 languages. Only calls longer than 30 seconds are transcribed, and voicemail transcription is free. It uses a third-party processor, so check that against your own data policies. We found no built-in call script feature in Close's calling material, so keep scripts in your own docs for now.
Close logs calls made in the app automatically, and every call gets a disposition such as answered, no-answer, voicemail left or busy (directional). Custom outcomes for connected calls are listed for Growth and Scale (directional). Close does not detect voicemail automatically, so an "answered" call can be a voicemail. Filter on duration, for example calls over about two minutes, to approximate real conversations (directional). For the wider reporting setup, see our Close CRM reporting guide.
Close says it supports outbound calling to nearly 200 countries. Calls are billed at pay-as-you-go voice rates that vary by country and number type, rounded up to the next minute, and Close's usage page lists no single rate. We saw conflicting per-minute figures in secondary sources, so we are not quoting one. Budget by testing a day of calls in your target countries and reading the bill. The usage page states no cap on call volume or duration.
Close's terms say you must follow recording and telemarketing laws and notify participants where required, and that dialers may be prohibited in some locations (directional, from search summaries). We found no do-not-call list scrubbing for the human dialers, so scrub lists before you import them. The rules differ by country and state, and for email the equivalent is covered in our cold email compliance guide. Get legal advice for the markets you call.
Close's calling material does not mention LinkedIn or email sequences, so the combination is something you build. A common pattern: send two emails, add a LinkedIn touch, and put leads who opened or replied into a "Call today" Smart View for the dialer. Close Workflows can handle the email and task steps. See our Close Workflows guide. Calling fast also helps once a prospect replies: see speed to lead, and for booked meetings that actually happen, the show rate playbook.
If dialing volume drives your pipeline, built-in dialers are a strong reason to choose Close. If marketing automation, reporting depth and a wider ecosystem matter more, HubSpot may fit better. Our Close vs HubSpot comparison walks through the full trade-off.
The Power Dialer calls one lead at a time and starts the next call as soon as one ends. The Predictive Dialer calls several leads at once and connects a rep only when a person answers, so it needs several reps online to work well.
Close's pricing page lists the Power Dialer on Growth and Scale, and the Predictive Dialer on Scale only. Marketing pages have conflicted on the Predictive tier (directional), so confirm in your account. See our Close CRM pricing guide.
Create a Smart View of the leads you want to call and click Call at the top of it. Close's help center says the queue rechecks the view every five minutes or less, so new matching leads join and leads that leave the view drop out.
Yes. Close lists one-click pre-recorded voicemail drops on Growth and Scale. The default ring time is 32 seconds, which is long enough to reach voicemail, with a 20-second reduced option.
Close bills calls at pay-as-you-go voice rates that vary by country and number type, rounded up to the next minute, and its usage page lists no single rate. Optional Call Assistant transcription is listed at $50 a month plus $0.02 per transcribed minute.
Close's terms put compliance on you: recording consent, telemarketing rules and do-not-call lists vary by country and state, and the terms say automated dialers may be restricted in some locations (directional, from search summaries). Get legal advice for your markets before dialing.
